Greene County enjoys a rich, historical heritage. Early settlers followed Indians and animals to the Big Spring-a water source that eventually served the growing town of Greeneville for 150 years.

Founded in 1783, Greeneville and Greene County were named for Revolutionary War hero Nathaniel Greene of Rhode Island.

Greeneville is also the home of Andrew Johnson, the 17th US President and successor of Abraham Lincoln.  A very good article about Andrew Johnson can be found by visiting The American President web site.  While in Greeneville, spend some time touring the Tailor Shop, Home and Grave of Andrew Johnson.
