Greene County enjoys a rich, historical heritage. Early settlers followed Indians and animals to the Big Spring-a water source that eventually served the growing town of Greeneville for 150 years. Founded in 1783, Greeneville and Greene County were named for Revolutionary War hero Nathaniel Greene of Rhode Island.
